Coming to fruition, the home-design startup Future came home is set to launch its home design service in India next month.
The startup is already offering its home designs to people who have registered for a new bank account.
But Future came back with a big plan: it wants to make the service accessible to the masses.
“We want to build the next generation of online-first, personalized design for people who are interested in their home, but don’t have a lot of money to spend,” Future cofounder and CEO Sanjay Kumar told Quartz.
“People who are already making the most of their existing space are missing out on great design and innovation.”
For example, it says people who live in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Bengaluru should expect to pay less than $1,000 per square foot in an apartment.
But for the ones who live elsewhere, the average cost of an apartment in Delhi is about $2,000.
So the average Indian could save about $20,000 on their next move.
If the startup’s vision is to make affordable homes affordable enough for those who can afford it, it wants its service to help make those deals happen.
The startup is also working with architects to create customized homes that look like a customized version of a real home.
And it’s partnering with designers to build customized furniture for the homes.
To make it affordable enough, the startup wants to sell products in the home market, but it is also looking at partnerships with manufacturers and builders to offer home furnishings.
Future came up with a few ideas in the past, like making a room of one of its houses a living room.
“The room can be customized to be a kitchen, a dining room, a living space,” Kumar said.
“You can create different types of furniture, and you can customize the color of the furniture.”
The company is also considering selling the design in the real estate market.
For example, a single bedroom might be available in a city like Mumbai for around $2 million, and a larger one could be priced at $15 million.
Future came home has been looking for people to join its platform, and the startup is hiring at a rate of 150 people a week.
Its goal is to have 10,000 users by the end of the year.
In the meantime, the team has launched a crowdfunding campaign, with its goal of raising $1 million.
The company has raised $1.7 million in seed funding, with a goal of $2.5 million by the time of the next round of funding.
